Reports to: Chief Medical Officer
The Freelance VP, Medical Director is a senior strategic and scientific leader supporting the medical team at VitaminMD on a project and or contract basis. This role provides expert-level medical and scientific direction, leads client-facing strategy discussions, and ensures accuracy, clarity, and clinical relevance across all deliverables. The Freelance VP, MD partners closely with internal teams and clients to elevate the scientific integrity and strategic positioning of brands across therapeutic areas.

Job Summary
The Freelance VP, Medical Director is a senior strategic and scientific leader supporting the medical team at VitaminMD on a project and or contract basis. This role provides expert-level medical and scientific direction, leads client-facing strategy discussions, and ensures accuracy, clarity, and clinical relevance across all deliverables. The Freelance VP, MD partners closely with internal teams and clients to elevate the scientific integrity and strategic positioning of brands across therapeutic areas.

Key Job Responsibilities (Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)
- Provide strategic medical and scientific leadership across assigned accounts and new business projects
- Lead and mentor junior team members (Scientific Associates, Associate Medical Directors, Medical Writers) on an as-needed, project-specific basis
- Conduct in-depth literature reviews and synthesize clinical data to support key brand strategies and messaging
- Ensure scientific and medical accuracy of all content and communications (internal and client-facing)
- Partner cross-functionally with Account, Strategy, Creative, and Project Management teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality work
- Present educational and strategic content to clients, internal teams, and new business audiences in a confident and engaging manner
- Serve as a therapeutic area expert, staying current with clinical developments and competitive landscapes
- Adapt seamlessly to different client needs, timelines, and workflows while maintaining the highest professional and scientific standards
Job Qualifications (Skills/Requirements)
- An MD, PharmD, or PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in medical advertising, medical communications, or medical education
- Experience in oncology is preferred
- Demonstrated success in leading medical strategy for brands and mentoring team members
- Strong understanding of clinical research principles, study design, and data interpretation
- Proficiency with scientific databases (e.g., PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov) and digital tools (Microsoft Suite, Keynote, research platforms)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to both scientific and non-scientific audiences
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple clients and priorities
- Proactive, collaborative, and adaptable—able to manage projects independently while aligning with agency goals and client needs
