Job Summary
The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll and serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits administration. This role will play a critical part in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, optimizing internal HRIS & payroll systems, and supporting employees through key life events. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and adept at managing confidential information with the utmost integrity.Key Job Responsibilities (Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)
- In partnership with the HR Director, process the bi-monthly payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality across all employee groups
- Serve as the primary liaison with payroll vendors and benefit providers, resolving any issues as they arise
- Administer company benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), commuter benefits, and wellness reimbursements
- Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll data for reporting, audits, and general ledger purposes
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, tax forms, and benefits coverage
- Help manage the annual open enrollment process, including vendor coordination, employee education, and system updates
- Help track and manage employee leaves of absence, in compliance with federal and state regulations (FMLA, STD, LTD, etc.)
- Monitor legislative changes and update internal practices to ensure ongoing compliance with payroll and benefit laws
- Assist with audits, including 401(k), workers’ compensation, and other benefits-related audits
- Generate payroll and benefits reports to inform organizational planning and compliance tracking
Job Qualifications (Skills/Requirements)
- 5+ years of experience in HR and Payroll functions
- Strong technical knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and benefits laws (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA)
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Namely) and HRIS platforms
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in handling sensitive payroll data
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; able to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with a customer service mindset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with reporting tools
- Discretion, integrity, and professional judgment in handling confidential information
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- Willingness to go beyond what is described in the job description and be flexible for the team, and ultimately, the work
