Job Summary
The Senior Vice President (SVP), Publication Planning will lead the development and execution of comprehensive publication strategies to support the dissemination of scientific and clinical data across multiple clients and therapeutic areas. This role will oversee the end-to-end publication planning process, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, compliance with industry regulations, and scientific integrity. The SVP will drive strategic decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and operational excellence in publication planning while managing high-level internal and external partnerships.
Key Job Responsibilities (Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)
Publication Plan Management- Contribute to the development and execution of a strategic, data-driven publication plan that aligns with corporate and therapeutic area objectives.
- Oversee the implementation of publication tactics, ensuring efficiency and alignment with scientific, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- Manage the execution of one large or multiple smaller publication plans, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive publication metrics and dashboards, incorporating business partner feedback for continuous improvement.
- Organize and lead publication strategy and operational meetings, including developing change control documentation, issue tracking, project updates, and detailed reports on progress and key performance metrics.
- Collaborate with Publication Specialists to ensure publication tracking tools contain accurate and up-to-date information.
- Engage with internal and external authors, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and publication vendors to ensure adherence to timelines and optimize publication processes.
- Ensure scientific disclosures align with appropriate venues and methodologies, following PhRMA, ICMJE, and company policies for ethical and compliant study result dissemination.
- Identify, evaluate, and resolve publication-related challenges, escalating issues to senior leadership when necessary.
- Balance business objectives with scientific integrity and compliance, ensuring all publications meet ethical and regulatory standards.
- Reinforce standardized scientific lexicon and terminology with writers, ensuring consistency across publications.
- Lead and coordinate scientific congress publication activities, ensuring uniformity within and across different assets and therapeutic areas.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for corporate scientific disclosures at medical and scientific congresses.
- Ensure publication standard operating procedures (SOPs) are well understood and consistently applied across teams and affiliates, providing guidance and clarification on local implementation as needed.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on best practices for publication planning and execution, ensuring compliance with global guidelines, including CONSORT, ICMJE, and Good Publication Practices (GPPs).
- Lead initiatives to enhance and optimize publication processes, identifying new opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Serve as a key communication point for cross-functional teams regarding publication-related processes and potential improvements.
- Capture, track, and champion innovative ideas for process enhancements, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with industry trends.
- Provide expertise and guidance on interactions with healthcare providers in accordance with PhRMA Code, AdvaMed guidelines, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Promote consistency and knowledge sharing across therapeutic areas, fostering collaboration and best practice implementation.
Job Qualifications (Skills/Requirements)
- Bachelor's degree required
- 10+ years of experience in the advertising industry
- Ability to travel (locally and nationally) up to 30% of the time
- Deep understanding of scientific principles, research design, data interpretation, manuscript composition, and Good Publication Practices (GPPs).
- Proven leadership experience in publication planning or a related scientific communication function.
- Strong project leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and re-prioritize tasks as needed.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal) for effectively engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and business acumen, with expertise in project management methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry guidelines and ethical standards, including Good Publication Practices, ICMJE, PhRMA, and AdvaMed guidelines.
- Experience managing publication budgets and vendor relationships.
